In their search for a new manager, Chelsea have moved on to Enzo Maresca, who won promotion with Leicester

After Maresca won the Championship with Leicester in his first season as head coach following his departure from Manchester City, the Blues are likely to request permission to talk with him. After a 19-year playing career that saw stops at West Brom, Juventus, and Sevilla, the Italian joined Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff.

Chelsea is optimistic in making a speedy decision after agreeing to break ways with Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday after just one season in command. Maresca, 44, isn’t the only candidate being considered. In addition to Thomas Frank of Brentford and Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town, the Blues have a shortlist of candidates, according to the Guardian.

Even though Frank lost a number of key players for extended periods of the previous season, he has managed to keep Brentford in the Premier League for three years in a row. Manchester United, who may be looking to replace Erik ten Hag as manager in the next weeks, have taken notice of the Dane because of his experience with data-driven recruitment models.

The Daily Mail states that a high-profile figure is among four unnamed candidates vying for the position of Chelsea manager. Possible candidates include Sebastian Hoeness of Stuttgart, Ruben Amorim of Sporting Lisbon, Michel of Girona, Marco Silva of Fulham, and Roberto De Zerbi, the former manager of Brighton, who recently resigned.Leicester might face a points deduction before next season’s start when they return to the Premier League, as Maresca has an £8.5 million release clause in his contract. Despite interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, and Brighton, McKenna rejected a lucrative new contract with Ipswich, costing the club more than twice as much as his release clause.

Only two years have passed since the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital era began, and Chelsea will be having their third manager appointed during this time. Despite guiding Chelsea to a Premier League sixth-place finish under Pochettino’s leadership, the Argentine and Chelsea’s upper management eventually had a falling out, and Pochettino departed by mutual agreement.
