Stone House at Celorico de Basto, northern Portugal. It is known as Casa do Penedo (home of the Rock) because it was constructed from four big stones that serve as the foundation, walls, and ceiling of the home. Constructed in 1972.

 

Everyone is astounded by the house’s snug fit between stones, which is an exceedingly unusual architectural marvel. Casa do Penedo is a “prehistoric” kind of house located in Celorico de Basto and Fafe, northern Portugal.

This house was erected in 1972 amidst four massive stones, flawlessly integrating into the natural terrain. Guimaraes, an engineer, designed it with the goal of becoming a rustic refuge where guests might immerse themselves in the natural surroundings of a local family.

 

Over the years, many adventurous tourists became fascinated by this architectural marvel, prompting the owners to relocate abroad.

Casa do Penedo is now a modest museum, filled with objects and images depicting the house’s history and the gorgeous environment that surrounds it. Despite its closeness to large windmills, the residence lacks an electrical system. The residence is furnished but unsuitable for long-term occupancy.

 

The two-story house, though small, is quite cozy. The ground floor features a kitchen and a small living room, all decorated in a very rustic style, with concrete and wooden benches.

 

The upper floor, accessible via a wooden staircase, serves as the sleeping area. Each room in the house has a different shape, adjusted to the geometric characteristics of each boulder. Additionally, there is an outdoor swimming pool and a natural-shaped outdoor pool resembling a large boulder.

Over the years, the house has suffered some damage from weather and various factors. The current owners have reinforced the entrances and replaced some original windows, added railings, and even bulletproof glass, making the house very safe.
