William Saliba can attend the EURO but not the Olympics
William Saliba completed a fantastic season with the Gunners, who were competing for the Premier League title with Manchester City until the final matchday of the season. The French midfielder played all 38 league matches, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
This wonderful season has earned the centre-back an invitation from Didier Deschamps to participate in EURO 2024 with the French national team, but that is not all, as Thierry Henry also wants to have him at his command for the next Olympics. The tournament is held in the summer in France.
This is when the problem arose. According to Le Parisien, Arsenal intervened when the club did not want William Saliba to participate in two international tournaments this summer. Because of that, Saliba will play too much and risk injury.
Losing Saliba will be another shock for Thierry Henry, who is used to the idea that Kylian Mbappé will help the team attack. But the talented French player will find a new home in the summer and he will have to focus on his new team in August, instead of plowing with the Olympic team. In addition, Mbappe’s next club will likely be Real Madrid, the team that has decided not to let its players attend the 2024 Paris Olympics.
