After Monday’s 3-0 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina, England’s Cole Palmer spoke about his delight at scoring his first international goal.
The Chelsea forward made his England debut under manager Gareth Southgate and scored the game-winning penalty in the second half at St. James’ Park, putting England ahead for good.
“It’s a great feeling, the first goal for your country,” the former MU21s star stated.
I was quite ecstatic since everyone dreams of scoring for their country.
It has been a long season, and I didn’t play my best game tonight. This is my first game for England, so I’m still getting my bearings; if all goes well, I’ll be able to travel to Germany. The captain of the Three Lions, Harry Kane, praised Palmer for his play this season for both Chelsea and England. Kane replaced Palmer shortly after the goal and scored a goal himself later in the match.
He’s having a phenomenal season, according to Kane.
What Palmer accomplished for Chelsea is an honor for both him and the team he was a part of, and it’s never easy to switch teams either.
We’re overjoyed to have him on board. In the competition in a few weeks, we will need every one of our players to contribute with crucial goals, therefore I am thrilled he scored.
When more people are happy, everything works out better.
