Mbappé likens himself to KD upon his transfer to Real Madrid

Social media users have drawn parallels between the highly publicized July 2016 NBA free agency signing of Kevin Durant to the Warriors and the recent official completion of soccer sensation Kylian Mbappé’s transfer to Real Madrid.

Some have compared the signing of Mbappé—generally acknowledged as one of the best players of all time—to Kevin Durant’s by the Golden State Warriors following their two consecutive trips to the NBA Finals. Real Madrid had just won the UEFA Champions League for the second time in three seasons.Even though Mbappé is joining a Madrid team that just won the most prestigious club title in the world without him, the parallel between Durant and Mbappé is intriguing because he left a Warriors squad that had just lost the NBA Finals.

But Durant did sign on alongside Steph Curry, the current MVP, while Mbappé will be playing with Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham, two players who have been mentioned as possible Ballon d’Or candidates.

Mbappé, who is 25 years old, has spent the last seven years with Paris Saint-Germain, during which time they have won six titles in League 1, the highest level of French soccer. Real Madrid won the Champions League for a record fifteenth time last weekend, but despite Mbappé and PSG’s domestic success, they were never able to clinch the elusive prize.

In additiоn tо being a vital part in France’s 2018 Wоrld Cup victоry, the 25-year-оld superstar is the team’s captain. Even thоugh France lоst the 2022 Wоrld Cup Final tо Argentina оn penalties, Mbappé gave it his best by scоring a triple trick. Liоnel Messi and Argentina were the champiоns.

In spite оf suffering devastating injuries that dashed the Warriоrs’ aspiratiоns оf cоmpleting a hat trick in 2019, Durant and Gоlden State prоceeded tо win cоnsecutive NBA Finals.

The two Larry O’Brien awards and back-to-back Finals MVP titles that Durant earned with the Warriors have been underappreciated by the media and fans because of the depth of skill that the team had before he joined. Should Mbappé expect the same treatment if Madrid maintains its supremacy in European soccer? Who knows? Many find the comparison appropriate at the moment.
