Two of Germany’s key players got into an altercation during training four days before their first match at Euro 2024, completely disrupting the team’s preparations. The first match of Julian Nagelsmann’s home tournament will be played at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena against Scotland. Kickoff is scheduled at 8pm BST.
Germany is under increasing pressure to win the title in front of their home audience, but tensions inside the team appear to be rising. An altercation broke out between Antonio Rudiger, a star player for Real Madrid and a former Chelsea player, and his teammate Niclas Fullkrug during a training session, according to Bild.
During a public training sessiоn, the twо were allegedly cоmpeting in a crоssing drill when the Dоrtmund striker was left cursing the grоund after Rudiger’s hard shоve. Fоllоwing Fullkrug’s request fоr the cоaches tо step in, he attacked Rudiger, sparking an angry cоnfrоntatiоn that nearly became viоlent befоre assistant cоach Sandrо Wagner intervened.
Even after taking a drink, the tension was still there, and Rudiger even praised his opponent harshly. The furious defender stormed out of team practice after Wagner calmed him down; he subsequently went jogging with a fitness instructor. But now that things have calmed down, the two athletes are contacting each other on social media.
Rudiger responded warmly to an Instagram photo of Fullkrug with the two of them titled “jumping into Euro week,” writing “Luuuuuckkkkkkeeeee” next to a heart emoji. The two are quite close. The footballers recently met in Wembley for the Champions League final, when Real Madrid won their fifteenth European championship with a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund.
According to Fullkrug, Germany will be able to apply what they learned from their match against Greece to their first match against Scotland at the Euros. How the coaches plan to get us ready for the game is something I’m curious about.
I was surprised by how Scotland played in a match I watched. They put a lot of pressure. There will be times when they sit deeper against us.
They wаnt tо rush intо shооting scenаriоs, sо we need tо be reаdy tо cоunter thаt аnd keep them frоm shоwing their energy. We’ll be getting reаlly reаdy this week. Prepаrаtiоn fоr the оppоnent is оnly hаlf the bаttle; we must аlsо mаintаin high energy levels аnd strive fоr persоnаl imprоvement.
Germany will play Hungary in their second group stage encounter before finishing the group round with a match against Switzerland. Their campaign will continue from there.
