Bruno Fernandes, captain of Manchester United, continued his stellar form in Portugal’s 3-0 victory over Ireland, extending his good success leading up to Euro 2024.
Portugal got off to a flying start when Joao Felix scored in the first 18 minutes. The first goal, scored by Felix, was assisted by Fernandes.
In their last friendly match before starting their Euro 2024 campaign in Germany, Portugal were defeated by a score from Cristiano Ronaldo in the 50th and 60th minutes of the second half.
Fernandes was in the game for the whole three quarters.
Throughout his time on the field, the playmaking midfielder had 90 touches and completed 69 out of 74 passes (or 93% per attempt).
Fernandes had six crucial passes.
With five crosses and three long balls, he attempted to locate a Selecao colleague. Two of the three long balls he pinged and one of his crosses found their target.
The 29-year-old had two attempts on goal and set up one major opportunity. Both were well-placed; neither needed Caoimhin Kelleher, the Irish goalkeeper, to make a save.
Only one of United’s three dribbles was finished by the captain. He engaged in three ground battles, winning only one.
United teammate Diogo Dalot, who played alongside Fernandes, came on for 45 minutes before being substituted by Nelson Semedo. It appears that Roberto Martinez has not yet decided on a certain starting right-back for Euro 2024, as he made the identical substitution in Portugal’s previous match against Croatia.
With an accuracy rate of 97%, Dalot completed 33 of 34 passes he attempted while touching the ball 41 times. A crucial pass was among his many passes.
The United defender was successful in 50% of his ground battles. On top of that, he made one tackle.

The focus of Fernandes, Dalot, and the rest of the national squad is now squarely on their first group stage match of Euro 2024, which they will play next week against the Czech Republic.
