Real Madrid competes with Barcelona targeting Joshua Kimmich to replace Toni Kroos

Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for Joshua Kimmich this summer but it seems Real Madrid may be keen on the Bayern star too.

According to Bild, Kimmich could imagine joining Los Blancos and taking over from Toni Kroos who has announced his retirement.

Kimmich would get to work with Ancelotti again, while Madrid could afford his salary – unlike Barcelona who may struggle to make any deal work financially.

Bild says a Barca move for Kimmich is “not that hot” despite the arrival of Hansi Flick as the club’s new first-team coach.

The main problem seems to be that Barca simply can’t afford his salary unless a top star departs in the summer transfer window.

As for Kimmich, he’s not sure if he will renew his contract at Bayern that runs until 2025 and may be waiting to see how thing pan out with new coach Vincent Kompany.

The former Manchester City player was something of a surprise appointment and it’s not clear yet what role in the team he has in mind for the Germany international.
