Liverpool could face interest from Paris Saint-Germain for defender Ibrahima Konaté this summer. The France international had a mixed season but lost his place to Jarell Quansah in the final weeks of the campaign.

Liverpool is likely to be in the market for a defender this summer after Joël Matip’s contract expired. He has missed large chunks of the season and Quansah stepped up to replace him, before ending the season as Virgil van Dijk’s first-choice partner.

Despite Joe Gomez also remaining in the Liverpool squad, the Daily Mail reports that Liverpool is eyeing a left-sided defender with Levi Colwill still having admirers at Anfield.

But the Reds could also need another option with PSG eyeing a move for Konaté, according to French outlet L’Equipe. The 25-year-old is in talks with Liverpool over a new deal but as yet, new extension has been signed with two years remaining on his current contract.

It’s reported that PSG has not made a direct approach for Konaté, but intermediaries have made it known that the French giants would be interested in taking him to Ligue 1 this summer. The Reds ace was born in Paris and it is not the first time he has been linked with a move.

Speaking to Canal Plus last year, Konaté discussed a potential move to the Parc des Princes. “Could I imagine myself wearing the red and blue of PSG? If I said no, I’d be lying, but if you’re asking, is it one of my objectives? Not at all,” he remarked.

Konaté’s last appearance of the season came in the Merseyside derby defeat to Everton. He was at fault for the opening goal and struggled throughout the match. Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher suggested after the match that Liverpool should look to replace him this summer.
