Though illness forced him to withdraw from EURO 2024 at the last minute, teenage midfield player Aleksandar Pavlovic was likely somewhat relieved to hear that Bayern Munich had offered him a new 5-year deal.
Aleksandar Pavlovic was one of the 26 players Julian Nagelsmann had chosen for the home leg of EURO 2024, but he had to withdraw at the last minute because of tonsillitis. The 20-year-old midfielder was subsequently replaced by Emre Can, who gave Germany the lead in their opening game 5-1 victory over Scotland.
Missing EURO 2024 at the last minute, Pavlovic was “compensated” with a new contract with Bayern Munich
It will be difficult for Pavlovic to get over his disappointment at missing the EURO in his hometown very soon. The 20-year-old sensation, nevertheless, can perhaps take some solace in the fact that he has formally signed a new contract with parent team Bayern Munich. The most successful football team in Germany made an official announcement stating that the relationship between the two parties will endure until June 30, 2029.
“Unfortunately, a tonsil issue has prevented me from realizing my dream of participating in the EURO at home,” stated Pavlovic. Although I am really unhappy, I am also relieved that my contract with Bayern Munich has been extended till 2029. That demonstrates the club’s faith in me, and I promise to work hard to earn that trust back. I want to keep becoming better and winning trophies with the team because I am honored and proud of it.
Pavlovic will stay with Bayern Munich until 2029
Considered the future of Bayern Munich as well as the German national team, Pavlovic is quite ungainly in the Die Mannschaft shirt. He was called up by coach Nagelsmann during FIFA Days in March this year but missed the opportunity to debut for the German team early because of tonsillitis. This midfielder therefore decided to have tonsillectomy to get ready for the new season with the Gray Tigers.
Debuted for the first team as a substitute in the Bundesliga win over Darmstadt on October 28, 2023, but at the end of November 2023, Pavlovic still played 71 minutes for the Bayern Munich youth team against SpVgg Bayreuth in the German Fourth Division. However, since then, he quickly became a key factor in coach Thomas Tuchel’s squad, closing his first professional season with 22 appearances and scoring 2 goals.
