The devastating result has led to speculation about Rooney’s international retirement, although Rooney has vowed to play on.

The £260,000-a-week forward, who was used as a midfielder during England’s Group B matches and ultimate exit, was spotted on a budget Jet2 flight to Ibiza with wife Colleen this week.
