Poland were certain to be eliminated after two defeats. However, on their farewell day, Robert Lewandowski and his teammates played their best game.

The return of Kylian Mbappe did not help the French team improve significantly in terms of playing style. The star wearing the number 10 shirt – with a mask protecting his nose – did not have a connection with his teammates.

Poland entered the match confidently and with a relaxed mentality. They were the team with more shots in the first 30 minutes of the match.

It was not until the end of the first half that the French team created pressure on their opponents. Mbappe had two chances to face the goalkeeper but could not defeat goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski – who made his first appearance for Poland at EURO 2024.

After the break, the French team increased their attack. Ousmane Dembele won a penalty in the 55th minute. Mbappe successfully took the opportunity to score his first goal in the EURO finals.

However, the French team could not maintain the advantage. Immediately after Mbappe missed a golden opportunity, the referee reviewed the video and determined that there was a penalty for Poland.

Goalkeeper Mike Maignan saved Lewandowski’s shot but was penalised for stepping off his goal line early. The Poland captain converted the replay to equalise.

The French team lost the lead and could not regain their dominance over their opponents. They controlled the ball more but were very deadlocked. Mbappe showed the same image as at EURO 2020 when he played alone, very little coordination with his teammates.

Coach Didier Deschamps sent Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud, Kolo Muani on the field but did not make a difference in attack. France did not score any more goals and were held to a 1-1 draw. At the end of the group stage, Les Bleus only finished second and will meet the runner-up of Group E in the round of 16.
