According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea plans to bring 18-year-old Marc Guiu into their star-studded roster this summer. The goal is to bring another young player into the fold for the new Enzo Maresca era.

The three-cap Spain Under-19 international has made an impression during his early career at Barcelona. As his future employers aim to continue adding young, promising players to their team, he is about to execute a move that might define his career—moving to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have focused a significant portion of their hiring, particularly under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, on adding high-potential players to their roster. So much so that Chelsea has apparently made the decision to prioritize young players over those who are at the top of their game going forward.

Nevertheless, Romano has disclosed that a verbal agreement has been reached with the young talent’s representatives, meaning that Guiu will likely be the first of many summer signings. The Italian journalist announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the Blues intend to activate the young player’s £5 million (€6 million) release clause.

“All right, Marc Guiu to Chelsea! The striker, who was born in 2006, will have his €6 million release clause activated, the club has just notified Barcelona.

“After reaching a verbal agreement with Guiu’s representatives, formal actions will now be taken later this week. Guiu should sign a long-term contract with the #CFC.The center forward made 27 appearances for the senior squad and the B team of the Blaugrana in all competitions, recording four assists and nine goals in 2023–2024 alone. Following his goal in his senior debut in October 2023, Guiu established himself as the face of La Masia academy and hasn’t been a regular fixture in the Spanish team’s senior procedures.

 

Despite his disorganized senior career debut in Spain, Chelsea, the capital club, is prepared to step in and provide him the chance to develop into one of the most lethal frontmen in the world thanks to his comparatively low release clause.
