Late goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane helped England come from behind to beat Slovakia 2-1 and book their place in the quarter-finals of EURO 2024.
England come from behind to beat Slovakia
England booked their place in the quarter-finals of EURO 2024 after a dramatic comeback against Slovakia. Jude Bellingham was the hero with a stunning volley in the final minutes, while Harry Kane scored the winner just seconds into extra time.
Gareth Southgate’s side looked destined for an early exit after an ineffective first half, allowing Slovakia to take the lead in the 25th minute and failing to register a shot on target until the 95th.
However, the drama came in the final seconds. Bellingham, with a classy move, jumped up and hooked the ball to score the equalizer for the Three Lions. This was also England’s second shot on target in the entire match.
Southgate’s substitutions also paid off. In the opening seconds of extra time, a dangerous ball created by substitute Eberechi Eze found its way to another substitute, Ivan Toney. Toney headed the ball in for Harry Kane to finish close to the goal, sealing the win for England.
The Three Lions’ quarter-final opponents will be Switzerland, next Saturday.
