One of “the two most promising football players in the world” is Estevao Willian, the newest addition to Chelsea’s roster. The other is Endrick, a Brazilian international who will play for Real Madrid and a product of Palmeiras.
In a deal rumored to be worth over £56 million, Chelsea have shelled the cash to get a jump on their trade rivals for the highly-rated 17-year-old. Estevao will come at Stamford Bridge in 2025, when he turns 18, after signing the deal.
Chelsea won the race to recruit the winger, who had interest from Barcelona, PSG, and Real Madrid, among others. He is the latest addition to the West London club’s long run of high-profile youth signings who have cost a pretty penny.
While many of Chelsea’s acquisitions under Todd Boehly have been criticized, questioned, and even mocked, the signing of Estevao has generated excitement and buzz as fans speculate that the Premier League may be about to get a new star.
Along with fellow Palmeiras phenom Endrick, Estevao stands out as one of Brazil’s best footballing prospects, despite only having made 26 senior games. He has scored five goals in that time.
Passion vs. polish: Palmeiras-produced possibilitiesThe comparisons between Estevao and the other 17-year-old prodigy are inevitable given that they both came through the ranks at the same club, share a nationality, and play comparable positions.
Sо fаr, Endrick’s fаme hаs sоаred higher thаn his teаmmаte’s. The striker is а regulаr in Brаzil’s squаd аnd hаs scоred three gоаls in eight internаtiоnаl gаmes. When he turns 18 lаter this mоnth, he will оfficiаlly jоin Reаl Mаdrid in а big-mоney cоntrаct.
Both players are deserving of inclusion in the conversation about the top young players in the world, according to Brazilian football expert and Palmeiras specialist Diego Iwata Lima, but the unfiltered, unfiltered brilliance belongs to Estevao.
You can’t help but make the comparison. Indeed, it’s not often that a single club manages to turn out two of the world’s most promising footballers in the span of less than two years,” he informed Trivela.
“But while Endrick seemed to calculate every gesture and almost apologised to his opponents when scoring goals, Estevao showed a different verve.”
In contrast to Estevao’s fiery enthusiasm and flawless technique, Endrick is portrayed as a more polished and media-trained superstar. For many Brazilians, this is just as important as having spectacular goals and silky talents on the field.
A Chelsea fan favorite of the future?Concerns over Estevao’s ability to thrive in the Premier League, commonly recognized as one of the most physically demanding leagues in the world, may arise when the 18-year-old winger arrives.
Lima, though, is adamant that Chelsea fans shouldn’t be worried, citing an event from Palmeiras’ 4-0 domestic league thrashing of Atletico Mineiro, a thrashing that the 17-year-old himself helped to finish.
“When he scored the fourth goal of the rout (4-0), he asked the Atletico-MG fans to be quiet, in the middle of the MRV Arena,” Trivela reported.
An example of what is commonly referred to as a ‘root player’ on social media, Estevao has been demonstrating this behavior.
“Although he hasn’t seen Edmundo, Romario, Tulio Maravilha and others, and is young enough to not have experienced even the beginning of Neymar in Brazil, or the Valdivia era at Palmeiras, his behaviour seems to point more towards that side: the provocation that moves the fans.”
At Stamford Bridge, where the fans are pleading for a savior to return them to the top of the league after two years of mid-table malaise, the man dubbed “Messinho” will surely become a fan favorite if he lives up to his potential and demonstrates the courage to defend himself in the Premier League.
We will have to wait another year to find out if Estevao is the one to kickstart that revival, but if he follows in the footsteps of other Brazilian sensations recently plucked from Europe like Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Endrick, Chelsea could be in for a real treat.
