Multiple sources in Italy are confident veteran Raphael Varane has decided to join Serie A new boys Como as a free agent from Manchester United.
The defender only turned 31 in April and still has much to give the world of football after a decade at Real Madrid and then three years at Old Trafford.
He visited Como to get a feel for the city, see the training facilities, meet directors and above all coach Cesc Fabregas.
Varane then took a few days to think about it and discuss the situation with his family, also evaluating the other proposals from the Saudi Pro League and MLS.
Roma were also interested in bringing him to Serie A with their coach Daniele De Rossi.
Varane ready for new Como adventure
According to Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and Fabrizio Romano, Varane has now given his reply and chosen to join Como.
It will be a short-term contract, but he can bring his vast experience to the club that earned promotion from Serie B over the summer.
Como are also close to securing former Roma goalkeeper Pau Lopez, on loan with option to buy from Olympique Marseille.
