WHAT HAPPENED?

The young midfielder made just three Premier League starts under Mikel Arteta last season, as Arsenal once again finished second behind champions Manchester City. This limited playing time has fuelled speculation over Smith Rowe’s future at the Emirates. The 23-year-old is a product of Arsenal’s academy and has enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough in 2021-22. However, injuries and the impressive form of Gabriel Martinelli have hampered his progress.

PANORAMA

Despite the difficulties, Fulham and Crystal Palace have shown interest in signing Smith Rowe, according to Sky Sports. Both clubs are believed to have made bids that were quickly rejected by Arsenal. The London rivals are now considering whether to make further bids before the transfer window closes.

DO YOU KNOW?

Aware of the need for more game time, Smith Rowe is weighing up his options. His current contract with Arsenal runs until the summer of 2026, but he could be looking for a move to secure a more prominent role elsewhere. Arsenal are reportedly willing to negotiate and could be persuaded to sell if the right offer comes in, which could be in the region of £25 million ($33 million), according to talkSPORT.

WHAT IS THE FUTURE LIKE?

Crystal Palace are particularly keen on Smith Rowe following the departure of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich earlier this summer. Olise’s transfer, for over £50 million ($65 million), left a significant void in Palace’s squad and they believe Smith Rowe has the potential to fill it.
