As part of their evaluation of potential replacements for Robert Sanchez, Chelsea have expressed interest in Filip Jorgensen, a goalkeeper for Villarreal.
As the La Liga club came up just short of securing a spot in Europe last season, Jorgensen was their starting goalkeeper and appeared in 37 games across all competitions.
The 22-year-old has played at several junior levels for Sweden and is now a fixture for Denmark’s Under-21 team.Jorgensen is eager to join Enzo Maresca’s squad, and the two teams are presently in the midst of transfer talks.
After Mauricio Pochettino left the Stamford Bridge bench, Maresca wasted no time adding depth to his goalkeeping options, with rumours circulating that Leicester’s Mads Hermansen was interested in joining Maresca’s squad.Robert Sanchez came from Brighton last summer, while Djordje Petrovic came from New England Revolution.
Sanchez was the starting quarterback for the team early in the season until suffering a knee injury in December’s match against Everton that kept him out for the rest of the season. In his absence, Petrovic made 31 appearances for the Blues, beginning in February’s EFL Cup final loss to Liverpool. He impressed throughout his time with the club.
Additionally, Chelsea is still the club that has signed the most expensive goalie in the history of the sport.
A number of clubs have expressed interest in signing Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer after he spent last season on loan with Real Madrid; it is seeming less and less likely that he will stay in west London. The Spain international has been practicing separately from the first squad since reporting for preseason at Cobham. His contract only has one year left on it.
Curiously, Al-Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League is keeping tabs on Kepa and Jorgensen as potential replacements for Ederson of Manchester City. The Brazilian’s transfer cost might be too much for the team to consider.
