Re-visited a suggested swap involving Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Manchester United likes Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries but talks are not progressed.

Concerns about Tyrell Malacia’s and Luke Shaw’s fitness have Erik ten Hag’s side stepping up their efforts to increase their full-back supplies during the summer transfer window.

Currently the only senior full-back on their pre-season tour of the USA is Wan-Bissaka, whose contract ends in 2025. Starting in all but one game on their path to the semi-finals and can feature as a right back or right wing back, Dumfries was vital for the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 campaign.

The Red Devils have been admirers of the 28-year-old for long years; his contract with Inter Milan is also slated to expire in 2025.

For Inter previous season, the Dutch defender made 36 appearances total, most notably scoring four times in the Italian top-flight on their path to be crowned Serie A champions.

Wan-Bissaka joined the Red Devils from Crystal Palace for £50million in 2019 and made 22 United appearances in the 2023–24 season; he has been linked with a move away from the club. Viktor Lindelof, who filled in at times during United’s defense crisis last season, also has a year left on contract.

 

Rangers also want midfielder Hannibal Mejbri on loan, although United would rather sell.

The 21-year-old alumnus of the United Academy has been loaned out to Birmingham and Sevilla for the past two seasons.
