Chelsea place £50 million price tag on European teams’ midfield talent with Tottenham keen

With Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid still hankering on the England midfielder, Chelsea is resolved not to sell Conor Gallagher on the cheap. Sources in Spain claim Atletico Madrid is growing more sure they may agree on a cost for the England midfielder.

Gallagher, who captained Chelsea on several times last season with both Reece James and Ben Chilwell out injured for protracted periods, has long-standing admirers at Tottenham. Although Atletico are ardent supporters, they have so far struggled to reach the £50 million Chelsea is seeking before bidding farewell to their academy graduate.

With just one year left on his present contract, Gallagher is in a good position in all of this; he can continue at Stamford Bridge should he not receive a new offer and can then leave for free next summer upon choosing his next course of action.According to some sources, Atletico was seeking a loan, but given the 24-year-old only has 12 months left on his contract, alternative is not financially feasible for the Blues.

After the club paid more than £1 billion on new young players, Chelsea academy players now find themselves in a vulnerable position where they are seen as sellable assets hoping in a few years they would be ahead of rivals.
