According to a statement from Chelsea, Thiago Silva will be leaving the club after four seasons to rejoin Fluminense of Brazil following our Premier League match against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.

After Thiago inked a two-year deal with the Brazilian club, Chelsea have already agreed that he can quickly join his new teammates. Prior to registering his transfer on July 1, Thiago will be granted permission to train with Fluminense.

After Thiago Silva spent 1998 and 2000 at the academy of Fluminense, he moved on to other parts of Brazil. After a loan spell with Dynamo Moscow, he made the move permanent and spent 2007–2009 with the club. After a good stint in European football with AC Milan, Silva finally broke through.

A lot of people mean a lot to Chelsea, Silva remarked. My original plan was to remain for a year, but I’ve already spent four. I want this for my family as well as for myself.

I consider myself a proud member of the Chelsea family as both of my boys play for the club. I really hope they stay with this successful club that so many players dream of joining.

In my four years here, I feel like I’ve always given it my best in everything that I’ve done. But alas, there is a beginning, middle, and end to everything. That in no way indicates the end. That would be great; it would mean the world to me if it meant I could return, albeit in a different capacity, at some point. However, the love we feel is beyond words. “Thank you” is all I can say.

Of course, I didn’t start here during the pandemic, so the stadium was empty. However, it took on a personal significance for me through social media, and as the crowds returned to the stadium, I began to experience feelings of love and respect.

Farewells are tough under the best of circumstances, but they’re downright painful when you care about the other person. As Blue, for all eternity.

The Brazilian defender Thiago Silva has proven himself to be world class over the past 14 years, winning 30 major and minor titles in Europe. This showy center back may be better off joining a less demanding football environment now that he’s 39 years old.
