Bayern director Max Eberl said: “It is obviously a bitter blow. We will support Hiroki as best we can to get him back fit as soon as possible.”

According to Bayern, Hiroki Ito has a broken foot. This type of injury causes players to rest for a long time and is prone to recurrence. The most obvious example is Man United center-back Lisandro Martinez. After suffering a foot injury, Lisandro Martinez was almost unable to play for MU last season and often suffered another injury after only a few matches.

Hiroki Ito joined Bayern from Stuttgart in the summer transfer window for a fee of around 30 million Euros. The Japanese player had an impressive season at Stuttgart, helping the team finish second in the Bundesliga.

With Ito’s latest injury, Bayern are likely to sign a new centre-back. Matthijs de Ligt is also expected to leave the club, with Man United a potential destination. Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah is their preferred target.

Hiroki Ito only played about 20 minutes in the match against FC Duren. Bayern needed a second-half goal from Nestor Irankunda to equalize against their local German opponents.
