According to a source, Kylian Mbappe entered the world of football club ownership following a majority investment in Ligue 2 team Caen.
Finally sealing his free move from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid earlier this summer, the France captain finished one of the longest transfers in contemporary memory.
But given Le Parisien’s disclosure of the 25-year-old’s €20 million payment to acquire a controlling share of the club, it seems as though he may have more offers to negotiate in the future. Along with Pierre-Antoine Capton, the club’s supervisory board president, he is scheduled to become Caen’s owner, therefore among the youngest club owners in European football.
Mbappe almost signed with Les Vikings as a teenage prospect before moving to Monaco.According to the article, Mbappe will seek to preserve Caen’s present situation rather than cause too much disturbance when he arrives. He is unlikely to be seen too frequently at the Ligue 2 team in the next years given his new life as one of Madrid’s primary poster boys.
Currently running Mbappe’s image company, Ziad Hammoud is slated to be the new president of the French side.
Last season Caen came sixth in Ligue 2, and has previous players including William Gallas and France international N’Golo Kante. When they placed fifth in the premier flight back in 1991/1992, their greatest achievement in league football.
Having placed 19th in the table, the team had spent five seasons in Ligue 1 before their demotion back to the second level in 2019. Caen has competed for promotion for the last three campaigns with finishes of seventh, fifth, and most recently sixth after almost dropping down once more in 2020/21.
